2016 Auraria Stakes Field and Barrier Draw

April 20th, 2016

A talented and capacity field of twenty three-year-old fillies and two emergencies has been confirmed for Saturday’s 2016 Auraria Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville Racecourse; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Adelaide Autumn Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.

The Grey Flash posted her only race win at black type level during last year’s Adelaide Autumn Carnival and has been confirmed in the 2016 Auraria Stakes final field.

Resuming in 2014 for fifth in the Magic Millions Adelaide 2.y.o Classic (1200m), The Grey Flash progressed to second in the Group 3 Campolina Stud Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) before taking out the Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on April 11th.

While failing to make much of an impact through the early stages of spring, the Not A Single Doubt filly ran sixth in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) most notably.

Yet to hit peak condition through four starts this time, The Grey Flash will relish a step-up to 1800m in the Auraria Stakes, but has been charged with overcoming a particularly wide and awkward draw.

Phillip Stokes could very well saddle the quinella in the race after confirming both Comprende and Coerced Witness in the 2016 Auraria Stakes field.

Comprende has steadily built to the task this year and carries slick form into the 2016 Auraria Stakes.

Posting two wins and a further four minors through thirteen competitive starts, the daughter of I Am Invincible ran fourth in the Qatar Airways BM64 (1000m) on March 19th; progressing to fifth in the Holdfast Insurance Handicap (1250m) before savaging the line for second in the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago.

Comprende will leave from the rails draw in the 2016 Auraria Stakes with leading South Australian hoop Dom Tourneur in the saddle.

Coerced Witness was a standout for Stokes through a brief summer campaign; winning the consecutive starts including the talent-rich Campolina Stud BM70 (1515m) on January 2nd.

Last start winner C’est Beau La Vie has also been confirmed in the 2016 Auraria Stakes field, but will have to overcome a wide barrier.
