Fairy Oak Wins 2010 Auraria Stakes

May 4th, 2010

As part of the exciting racing action of Morphettville’s Super Sunday last weekend, Peter Moody’s up-and-coming filly Fairy Oak managed to secure a stakes win in her first attempt at Group level in the $100,000 Group 3 Darley Auraria Stakes (1800m).

A daughter of well-performing sire High Chaparral, Fairy Oak ($7) maintained the win she found coming into the straight to hold off challenges by runner-up El Spark ($21), who was a long neck away after racing up the outside, and Legislature ($9) who was the same margin back in a gallant third.

Odds-on favourite Zantelagh ($2.50) got pushed out wide on the straight and couldn’t make up ground coming in 11th.

Three-year-old Fairy Oak has now won two of her four career starts for over $74,000 in prizemoney and is Moody’s best chance for a win in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 5.

Morphettville Races is the site to visit for a more in-depth look at Fairy Oak’s win in the 2010 Auraria Stakes, and is also where you will find the results of the day’s other feature events including the $300,000 Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) and the $300,000 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m).
