The betting markets for this Sunday’s $100,000 Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) at Allan Scott Park Morphettville have opened, with Zantelagh emerging as the hot pre-race favourite at $2.80 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Representing the 2009 Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh, who also trains the hot favourite Catapulted in the $300,000 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) at the same meeting, the well-bred filly has been very popular with the punters since her eye-catching run in the Listed Chairmans Stakes (2014m) last start.
The graceful grey daughter of Zabeel, a winner of two of her eight race starts, ran a gallant sixth to Red Colossus in the Chairmans, and although it wasn’t the ideal result she hit the line hard and impressed Kavanagh.
Zantelagh will enjoy the drop back in distance the Auraria Stakes provides and despite drawing out wide in barrier 11 in the 16 horse field, will start as the raging favourite.
Equal second favourites at $6.50 with Ladbrokes.com.au are Hearts And Arrows drawn ideally on the inside alley and due to be ridden by champion hoop Glen Boss, and the Peter Moody-trained High Chaparral filly Fairy Oak aiming for her second career win from just four starts.
The longest-priced runner in the 2010 Auraria Stakes is Scene In Pink currently paying $101 for a win.
